Acrylics painting Terry Pratchett

This week's art class assignment.
How is it built up? First you select a light color -in my painting the pink-red one- and paint all the dark area's in your reference; full paint without water. Then you paint shaded parts with an "empty brush"; i.e. still pure undiluted paint, but not in full, even patches. After that you repeat with black paint, but you apply them a tad more discriminate; only the really dark areas get a second coating. As such you also leave some of the previous color layer intact. Last you apply colors but with heavily diluted paint, so that you can see through it, when you apply them. I added some orange and grey in this fashion. If you're really good, you are now finished. I had to apply some small corrections using undiluted white paint to bring back some of the white in some places in the painting.
